FAAC gate automation can usually be repaired without replacing the whole system. We can send a local gate engineer in Liverpool or Merseyside who works on FAAC swing gate operators, sliding gate motors and barriers, finds the cause of the fault and gives you a price first.

FAAC equipment is widely fitted on driveway gates at homes and on commercial sites, car parks and gated developments. Most problems come down to the operators, the control board, the safety devices or the gate itself no longer moving freely.

FAAC equipment engineers work on

  • Swing gate operators – ram-type arms fitted to the gate and post, articulated arm operators, and underground motors hidden beneath the gate's pivot. FAAC makes both electromechanical and hydraulic operators.
  • Sliding gate motors – a geared motor driving a rack along the bottom of the gate.
  • Barriers – automatic barrier arms used for car parks and site entrances.
  • Controls and accessories – control boards, receivers, remotes, photocells, safety edges, flashing lights and keypads.

Our general guides cover swing gate repair and sliding gate repair in more depth.

The FAAC name is used here only to describe the equipment we can help with; this site has no affiliation with FAAC.

Typical FAAC gate faults

What a gate engineer checks

  1. Asks what type of FAAC system you have and what the gate is doing.
  2. Checks power, fuses and the control board for fault indications.
  3. Releases the operators and moves the gate by hand to see whether hinges, wheels or tracks are binding.
  4. Tests each operator, and on hydraulic units looks for leaks or weak movement.
  5. Checks photocells, safety edges and the obstacle-detection settings.
  6. Explains the fault and the price before carrying out the repair.

A gate that is stiff to move by hand puts strain on any motor, so mechanical problems are often fixed first. For motor-specific issues, see gate motor repair.

Safety on automated gates

Powered gates can cause serious injury if their safety devices are not working. After a repair, the engineer should check that photocells stop or reverse the gate, that safety edges work, and that the closing force is set appropriately, in line with guidance such as EN 12453. If your gate has been working without photocells or with them bypassed, an electric gate safety check is a sensible step.

Parts, repair and replacement

Remotes, photocells, receivers and many control boards and operators are generally available or have compatible replacements. Older FAAC operators and boards can be harder to source, and if a direct match is not available the engineer may suggest updating the control board or operator while keeping the gate itself. Replacement of the whole system is usually only needed when several parts have failed, the gate structure is damaged, or the equipment is too old for compatible parts. Coastal air around the Wirral and north Sefton can corrode exposed fixings and rack, which is worth checking during a repair.

Arranging a FAAC gate repair

When you call, say the gate is FAAC-automated, whether it is swing, sliding or a barrier, and what it is doing. The same number also handles garage door repairs in Liverpool, so saying it is a gate means we can send an engineer suited to gate work.

Frequently asked questions

Can you repair an old FAAC gate motor?

Often, yes. Seals, capacitors, boards and other parts can frequently be replaced. If a part is no longer available, the engineer may suggest a compatible operator or board while keeping your existing gate.

Why will my FAAC gate open but not close?

The most common cause is the photocells: something blocking them, misalignment, or a fault. The safety system stops the gate closing when it cannot confirm the way is clear.

My FAAC hydraulic operator is leaking oil. Is that repairable?

Usually. Leaks are often caused by worn seals, which can be replaced. The engineer will check whether the ram is worth repairing or needs replacing.

Can I open my FAAC gate in a power cut?

Most operators have a manual release, often using a key. The engineer can show you where it is and how to use it.

Can new remotes be added to my FAAC system?

Yes, in most cases compatible remotes can be coded to the existing receiver, and lost handsets removed.
